Sports Therapy

Rehabilitation and Prevention

The pain and debilitating effects of a sports or exercise injury can afflict everyone, from professional athletes to weekend warriors. However, the days of being sidelined by pain and having to ‘wait out’ the discomfort of an injury are gone.

At the Glasgow Sports Injury Centre, we diagnose the root cause of the injury and combine the most effective and conservative treatments to aid recovery and provide pain relief. We also offer advice on effective prevention strategies based on our expert assessment. These preventative treatments and advice will optimize your performance and reduce your risk of exercise injury in the future.

You don’t have to be sporty to benefit from Sports Therapy treatment. Workplace, everyday life-related, and postural injuries present in the same way as sports injuries.

MANUAL THERAPY

Manual therapy involves joint mobilisations to reduce pain and muscle spasms, improve mobility and restore normal range of movement. Muscle Energy Techniques or PNF involves gentle isometric muscle contractions to help restore normal movement to restricted joints.

EXERCISE REHABILITATION

After a thorough physical assessment of the injury, we provide a personalised exercise programme. Exercises are chosen for their effectiveness in strengthening weak muscles and stretching tight muscles.

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE / MYOFASCIAL RELEASE

Deep tissue massage is a hands-on treatment used to work on areas of muscle tightness or thickening. Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective technique which applys gentle sustained pressure in the myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion.

MEDICAL ACUPUNCTURE

Medical Acupuncture often known as “Dry Needling” is used to provide pain relief and promote healing. Trigger point release and intra-muscular stimulation help release areas of soft tissues which have become tight and inflexible. Acupuncture needles release endorphins resulting in increased blood flow and natural pain-relief.

MUSCLE IMBALANCE / CORE STABILITY RE-EDUCATION

We are experts in human movement and physical exercise. Following your initial assessment we will identify specific areas of muscle weakness or tightness and devise an effective exercise program to address imbalances.

KT & SPORTS TAPING

Kinesiology taping uses 100% cotton athletic tape designed to mimic the elasticity of skin and muscles. Widely used in professional sport, KT benefits a wide variety of musculoskeletal, sports injuries and inflammatory conditions. Targeted tape placement effectively stabilizes joints and stretches muscles without restricting movement or compressing the skin.
